October isn’t just about longer, darker nights and Hallow’een. For this month, London has gone art mad. Frieze Art Fair now attracts 151 galleries, and with other fairs such as Zoo, Bridge and Art London expanding together with countless exhibition and new gallery openings there’s never been a better time to feed your artistic appetite, discover a new name or get in with the arty buzz. And as the exhibition info is stacking up as fast as the falling autumn leaves we’ve swept everything up into this handy A-Z.
ArtLONDON – Art Fair
Over 70 mainly British galleries are exhibiting works from the 20th century to the present day. Features include a sculpture garden with work from Tony Cragg among others and a special exhibition from the Cass Sculpture Foundation. A variety of art from sculpture; glassware to fine art and more are on sale.
Prices range from an affordable £500 to a cool £200k.

Bridge Art Fair
The third year of this art fair - the UK branch of the Miami and New York versions - that runs alongside Frieze in a nearby venue.
With a good mix of galleries from America, Japan, Canada, Brazil and the UK you can expect a multiplicity of contemporary art styles.
Jill George Gallery and Cynthia Corbett Gallery are among London-based venues exhibiting.

Consciousness And Form: Contemporary Tibetan Art – exhibition
An exploration into the largely unfamiliar territory of Tibetan Art made within the last year.
Exhibited in the gallery’s new space on the ground floor of an 18th century house in Mayfair.

This Dust Was Gentlemen And Ladies: Christiana Solou – exhibition
A selection of drawings crafted delicately from the hand of this Greek artist.
The title is taken from an Emily Dickinson poem and highlights Solou’s fascination with the enigma of death.

The Exquisite Corpse: Polly Morgan- exhibition
Not to ‘name drop’ at all, but rumour has it that Morgan is producing this show with the help of some celebrity friends such as Jude Law, Sophie Dahl and Sharleen Spiteri. Not known to shy away from the subject of death this Artist/Taxidemist will be turning road kill into priceless artworks. A real stunner.

Frieze Art Fair
The highlight of the UK art calendar, Frieze is back.
Expect lots of Art Buff hobnobbing, celebrity spotting and bloody great contemporary art.
There is a healthy 151 galleries exhibiting this year and for those who don’t just wish to gawk or ponder there are talks, films and music.

Gagosian Gallery - Pop Art Is... - exhibition
To mark the 50th anniversary of Richard Hamilton’s artwork - considered by critics to be the beginning of Pop Art - the Gagosian trace the genre’s rise and fall through the works of over 40 artists.
From the old masters of Pop to the more present generation of influenced artists, everything from Warhol and Lichtenstein to Koons and Hirst are included.

Haunch of Venison - Zhang Huan : Ash - exhibition
The leading contemporary Chinese artist presents his first UK show with works created from incense sticks burnt in temples in Shanghai. Most famous for his live performances, such as in 1994 when he covered his body in honey and squatted in a public toilet attracting flies.

Irrational Exuberance - exhibition
The opening exhibition for this new West End gallery is a mixed show featuring works by contemporary artists including Aaron Johnson and Fiona MacDonald.

Jennifer Allora & Guillermo Calzadilla - exhibition
Cuban and American art duo bring their works inspired by the landscape and culture of Puerto Rico, their artistic base. A fantastic mixture of sculpture, photography, performance and video.
Exhibition of work by Canadian artist Rodney Graham also on show.

Keith Talent gallery hosts the Year 07 Art projects – Art Fair
78 galleries are exhibiting in the fabulous architectural surroundings that were previously home to The Saatchi Gallery.
A fairly new contender to the London art fair scene this is an up and coming fair with fresh ideas and a youthful artistic presence. Definitely one to watch.

Louise Bourgeois – triple exhibition
Not to be out done by the plethora of art fairs this October, “the grande dame of late modernism”, French artist and instillation sculptress, has three exhibitions showing in London this autumn.
A major retrospective of her work since 1995 opens at the Tate Modern. Marlborough Fine Art is showing her recent work including graphic pieces on cloth and Hauser & Wirth is showing recent prints and text in mixed media on music manuscript paper.

The Painting Of Modern Life - exhibition
An innovative exploration into the huge role photography plays within contemporary painting.
From inspiring pseudo-realism to a play on photographic representation, this is the first exhibition to highlight the common link between the two art forms.

National Portrait Gallery: Pop Art Portraits –exhibition
Pop artist’s most favourite theme – the cult of the celebrity - is taken through its various stages in this retrospective of Pop portraits.

Terry O'Neill: Sinatra: Frank And Friendly – exhibition

A Fair originating in Miami and New York jumps onto the London art fair bandwagon by launching it’s London counterpart.

Queen and Country: Steve McQueen – exhibition
Commemorating British service personnel who have been killed in the war in Iraq, this is a special exhibition for the Imperial War Museum.
Mcqueen presents the faces of those who have died in a series of postage stamps in a attempt to get the Royal Mail to publish them.
The Turner Prize winning artist also has an exhibition at the Thomas Dane Gallery this month, which includes a film piece.

Rivington Place – new gallery
The £8m public building will house contemporary art on a permanent basis.

Seduced: Art And Sex From Antiquity To Now - exhibtion
A huge range of works from eras as far reaching as Roman, Indian, Baroque and contemporary are used to illustrate the changing representation, and attitude towards sex in art over the last 200 years.
Over 250 works make this an exhibition of epic proportions.
Robert Mapplethorpe, Francis Bacon, Andy Warhol and Pablo Picasso are among 70 featured artists.

Turner Prize Retrospective - exhibition
The doting father of the explosive British art scene of the last 23 years, the Turner Prize is having a retrospective of key works 1984. The prize is held this year in the Tate Liverpool.

Unilever Series: Doris Salcedo – exhibition
Salcedo is the eighth artist to be commissioned to create an instillation in the Turbine Hall at The Tate Modern.
This is the first public UK work for the important Colombian sculptor, all will be revealed shortly....

Victoria Miro - Phil Collins: The Return of The Real - exhibition
Not to be confused with the genius 80’s pop legend, this Turner Prize 2006 nominee confronts the issues of reality TV.

Exhibition - The Future Can Wait
This exciting exhibition on the arty stomping ground that is trendy Brick Lane showcases 50 un -sectablished artists.
Curators Zavier Ellis and Simon Rumley have named them ‘The New London School’ from criteria including an emphasis on technical skill and a focus on ‘the human condition’.
It promises to be an innovative project with a mixture of painting, video and installation which apparently is the biggest privately curated exhibition/art fair for up and coming artists.
Includes work by Stella Vine, James Jessop and Jennifer Allen. All work is for sale.

Z oo Art Fair
The alternative to Frieze, this fair was originally held at London Zoo but has now been moved to the Royal Academy.
It showcases work selected by a panel including Iwona Blazwick, Director of the Whitechapel Gallery, and Time Out's Arts Editor Ossian Ward.
