Roger Hilton: Swinging out into the Void

until 21st September 2008 | Kettle's Yard, Castle Street, Cambridge CB3 0AQ

Roger Hilton (1911-1975) is widely thought to be one of the best and most daring painters of his generation. Moving from the city to Cornwall in 1965 he previously worked in London and Paris, and saw himself as a European artist while contemporaries flocked to the New York Scene. His paintings are vivacious and  spontaneous, showing him to be one of the boldest yet subtlest colourists of his era. Well worth a pop up to Cambridge.
