Editor's Letter - A New Wave

There’s something in the air. I can’t put my finger on it just yet, but almost every artist, director, writer or musician that I speak to reckons that we’re sowing the seeds of a new aesthetic. A new art movement, if you will.

And mass culture is sure to follow.
Those as diverse as Foolish People Artistic Director John Harrigan,  artist Stuart Semple and soul singer Omar all reckon that the arts can ( and should )  make a difference, and that, maybe, we’re taking a step back from Posh’s pimply forehead.
Of course,  though, we all love a peep at what the stars are up to, but, increasingly, we crave celebs who can actually DO something, for our nights out to be more than the usual drink/ dinner combo;  for  clubs and bars to be friendly rather than clique-y and for entertainment to leave us inspired, enlightened and ( hold onto your hats ) actually thinking.
It’s an exciting time, especially for Open as we’re right at the forefront of this new wave, and at the beginning of what will shape tomorrow.
And we’ll be the first to tell you not just who, what and where but why.
Now, oh dear,  my head is about to explode!
