Exclusive : Lisa B - Rabbit Addict

What’s a girl’s favourite pet? A puppy? A hamster? No. It’s a rabbit. Not a fluffy one with sweet eyes and floppy ears, but a Rabbit vibrator, the world’s best-selling pleasure tool as made famous by TV hit Sex And the City. And now Rabbit Fever, a mockumentary by Ian Denyer out now on DVD, explores what happens if this ( not so) innocent looking piece of plastic becomes addictive. Vera Brozzoni caught up with the film's star, Lisa B

The right to sexual pleasure had to be conquered by women in years of struggle against a patriarchal society. And even these days, no matter how open minded politically or socially, many blokes have are still a bit suspicious about female orgasm – so powerful, so mysterious, so scary!
But now that women (only a small percentage, in reality) seem to have found the formula for the perfect orgasm thanks to the Rabbit, what if this God-blessed tool became addictive?
In the film, a group of young women confront their addiction - that in some cases becomes part of a happy love relationship -  but in others causes jealousy, self-loathing and a sense of guilt.
A Rabbit-Addict that doesn’t really have a problem and easily switches to the real thing and back is nymphomaniac Nicky, played by Lisa B (Bridget Jones’ Diary). Vera Brozzoni caught up with her.

VB: Hi Lisa, Did you enjoy working in Rabbit Fever? What was it like to play the part of a nympho PR?

L B: Playing Nicky was great fun. I love playing parts which have a sense of humour to them. While living in L.A. I had quite a few friends who went to different groups for therapy – AA or NA – it seems like everyone in L.A. is in some sort of self-help group. So  I could relate to someone who had to go to these kinds of meetings! Working with the team on the film was loads of fun, the script is so funny that we couldn’t help laughing throughout making it.

VB: Are dildos really an instrument of female liberation? Or are they a symptom of loneliness and women’s fear of real experiences with a real man?

LB: More that anything, I’d say they are simply used for pleasure. People may enjoy analysing why a woman may use one, needing some reason for using one, but personally I feel they re basically used to give a woman the ability to give herself pleasure – without an agenda.

VB:  Have you ever felt in your career that  the men in showbiz put your sex appeal before your talent?

LB: You do get judged sometimes on appearances before talent. However, it can work both ways – being beneficial at times or detrimental. It depends on the role you are going for. Sometimes appearances get you in the door and give you the ability to show your talent. Or sometimes your good looks might give someone the impression that you may not have the talent to back it up. It’s a double edged sword.

VB: Do you prefer to work in small, indie productions like Rabbit Fever or in big studio films like Bridget Jones?

LB: Both have great incentives for doing them. Indies don’t ever have a budget, so you tend to do them because you really like the project. But because they don’t generally cost very much to make, you have much more creative licence and can be a bit more avant-garde, interesting and unique. It may also be something worth having on your reel, which in turn helps you get a big studio film. Big productions need to recuperate the costs, thus they need to appeal more to the masses and perhaps to be less interesting. The upside is many more comforts, incredible special effects and the occasion to work with some great actors. I enjoy doing both – I just enjoy acting.
